Online Therapy

Virtual online sessions from the comfort and privacy of your own home.

Access to psychological therapy no longer has to be something that is restricted by what is available in your local area. In recent years it has become more common for appointments to be offered online and there are a number of reasons why online therapy might be right for you including time and convenience.

Assessment

Right from the very start psychological therapy is a collaborative process. When we meet for the first time it is an opportunity for me to get an understanding of your needs and what you would like support with. This means that I will be curious about you and your life, asking you lots of different questions, so that I can formulate what is happening and why. This then helps me to come up with different options for treatment which we can then discuss and decide which fits for you. This is also likely to be influenced by any goals you might have. It is also an opportunity for you to see if you feel that I am someone that you feel comfortable talking to and would like to work with.

Practicalities of Therapy

Therapy sessions last 50 minutes which is known as the therapeutic hour. The frequency and amount of sessions will vary depending on treatment and goals. I offer both short term and longer term therapy. We will regularly review progress and needs throughout therapy deciding together how many sessions to meet for. Often people have between 10-20 sessions.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is paramount in psychological therapy and will be kept, however, if I am concerned that there is a significant risk of harm to yourself or others then I have a legal duty to break confidentiality and contact an appropriate body or person. Breaking confidentiality is not something that I would do lightly and I would endeavour to discuss it with you so that it was done with your knowledge and if possible consent.

Psychologists are required to have regular supervision to ensure the quality of their work and their continued development. Individual cases are discussed but details are anonymised and kept to a minimum as much as possible to ensure confidentiality is kept. Psychologists are also required to keep session notes which are held securely in line with GDPR and are kept only for as long as necessary.

Endings

Endings are an important part of therapy and something we work towards from the beginning of therapy. The great thing about private therapy though is that you have lots of choice and control about how to end therapy. Review sessions every now and again can be supportive and help you to keep up with intentions and goals worked on during therapy.

I began my therapy journey with Abby last year and it has been an incredibly positive experience. Abby stands out with her knowledge of different therapy methods and her skill in integrating them. This personalized approach has been extremely effective for me.

Sessions with Abby feel more like an enlightening conversation, delving into the complexities of the mind. Abby’s ability to combine various therapy styles has equipped me with a diverse set of mental tools. This has helped me to transform overwhelming emotions into manageable parts of my life.

What I truly appreciate about Abby is the impact of each session within a short time. Her capability in conducting multiple therapy forms meant that I didn’t have to look elsewhere for different types of therapy. I highly recommend Abby for anyone seeking a therapist who can make a significant, positive change in a brief period.”
